A "Slapp Av" (Relaxing) Day

Not much happened around our house today. Dani and Chris just wanted to hang out and visit and Kaleb and Tobias didn’t want to be in the car to go anywhere, so we just wasted the day away not doing anything in particular. Tobias helped Kaleb study for his science test, Dani and I had a lot of time to catch up on what’s been happening in our lives, Kory pressure washed the deck, and Chris replaced the spark plugs on his truck. I set up a competition between Kaleb and Tobias as to who could clean their half of the van the best. The winner got to pick which movie to watch, and the van sure got sparkly clean and all those bugs that were plastered to the front bumper, suddenly disappeared.

I ran into town today with Dani and Tobias as there were a lot of sales happening today, but no one found anything to buy so it seemed like wasted time. Dani and I talked a lot on the way there and back. She talks about all kinds of things that most people would consider inappropriate or too personal to mention in mixed company. I had to warn Tobias that not all Americans are like her and I apologized if he was embarrassed about some of the things he overheard. Dani defended herself a little and said that she just likes a good laugh. I said that I thought Americans probably laugh more than Norwegians and I asked Tobias if he thought that was true also. Tobias said, “Well, we do like to make fun of the Swedes.” We all had a good laugh over that one. Dani wants to take Tobias home so then she can brag about what a good boy she has. She thinks he’s perfect in every way. I have to admit, he’s an easy kid to have around, but then we knew that before we invited him to spend the summer with us. We are hoping he rubs off a little on Kaleb.

Tonight the boys lit up some fireworks again. They got out the firecrackers and blew up a few slugs, then started experimenting on different food items, sticking firecrackers in grapes, potatoes, tangerines and bowls of rice, just to see what would happen. Kory got out the potato cannon (see photo) and they fired off a few rounds of potato chunks that went far up into the heavens, higher than the eye can see, and I’m pretty sure they came down looking something like mashed potatoes. Boys just want to have fun. I’m just glad no one was hurt. The last time Kory fired off the potato cannon, it backfired with a flash of flames that singed his mustache and burned off one of his eyebrows. You’d think he’d learn.
